ribot need a designer – are you the one?

We’re on the look out for a talented designer to join our team here in our Brighton studios. We’ve crafted a short deck that should give a good overview of who we are and what we’re looking for.

Essentially, you’ll need a number of skills, but your attitude is most important. We look forward to hearing from you.

ribot presenting at The Future of Mobile

On the 16th September 2011, we’ll be joining Brian Leroux of PhoneGap fame, James Pearce (Sencha Inc) and a whole host of other speakers who will be talking at The Future of Mobile in London.

We’ll be talking on the subject of “Designing for Different Screen Sizes”, which is a subject very close to our hearts here at ribot. For all our readers/followers we’ve also got a promo code which gives 10% off the official ticket price – please quote FOM-10.

Enjoy!

Touchtype launches two new SwiftKey apps

Touchtype has completely refreshed its next-generation AI keyboard and, with a little help from ribot designer Ben, have released two new versions of the stunning Swiftkey app.

Now available as Swiftkey X and Swiftkey Tablet X the apps add even better personalisation, advanced prediction and machine-learning options as well as a host of new UI improvements.

Sloppy or slow?

It turns out that nearly all mobile keyboard users fall into two types; those who like to be precise and watch for the phone’s predictive suggestions and those who like to type words quickly and ignore the odd typo. Swiftkey X now gives you the opportunity to fine-tune the app to match your prefered style.

Cloud personalisation

Since the early beta Swiftkey has long been recognised as an uncannily accurate and speedy text prediction app—often allowing text sentences to be completed with single taps. The spooky predictive power originally came from analysing the content of your outgoing SMS messages but this ability to anticipate your words is now further enhanced with analysis of your personal writing style directly from your Facebook, Twitter and Gmail accounts.

Three HD themes

The new app works on a range of screen sizes and resolutions and with light, dark and neon options Ben’s new themes look gorgeous on both phones and tablets. ribot also spent time streamlining the UI, installation and app setup. It’s almost worth downloading just to enjoy the lovely new installation screens!

We’re not yet ready to release the beta-version into the wild but so many of you were interested in having a play with Threedom we’ve decided to invite a small group of enthusiastic alpha testers to help us prepare for launch.

We’re looking for a wide-range of testers (not just mobile-industry experts) so if you or anyone you know has an Android device and would like to use it with a brand new interface, designed to help people with dexterity problems, then please register today at ThreedomPhone.com — we’ll send you a link to the alpha registration form and ask a few questions to find out a bit more about you and your device.

Threedom announced at Wired Health

Last week, at the 2011 Wired Health event (organised by digital community innovators Wired Sussex), we announced Threedom our 3 button phone app, which is now ready for its next phase — feedback from the community.

Launching exclusively on Android, Threedom is the first simple interface built to allow anyone to easily use a touchscreen mobile. Despite being “smart”, many mobiles are still unusable for large numbers of users; devices are often too complex, or the person doesn’t have the dexterity to use all its features.

Threedom offers a unique, chunky 3-button interface that allows for easy navigation through contacts, texts, music, photos and more.

Threedom, the 3 button phone

We’ve launched a single-page website to gather contact details for those who are interested and, in a few weeks, we’ll be sending out invitations to download the application. After we’ve gathered feedback and tweaked the experience, we’ll be ready to launch to the rest of the world!

Visit ThreedomPhone.com to register your interest. We’re looking forward to your feedback!
