This week at LadyGeek.tv, the girls reviewed some of the recently released mobile shopping applications, including Amazon, Ocado and the ribot-designed-and-built Tesco app. The conclusion? Well, just look at @Hermoine’s face as an indicator.
The girls at LadyGeek.tv also have a FaceBook page, where you can post feedback and questions and generally catch up with what they’ve been talking about and reviewing.

If you’re currently planning your September diaries, then don’t forget about Over the Air, a mobile event now in it’s third year and going from strength to strength.
This year’s event will again host the almost-legendary mobile competition, which has featured Lastminute.com’s phone fight, and Future Platform’s Project Bluebell. The event got coverage by the BBC last year.
Registration for the event, held in London on the 10th-11th September is now open. If you’d also like to give a talk they’re looking for speakers for a variety of different sessions.
We’re really excited to announce the release of the Tesco Grocery app on Nokia allowing everyday Tesco users to do their shopping on the go.
Having worked closely with the Tesco folk (@angelamaurer, @rpatey, @nicklansley et al) over the last few months it’s great to see our app out there with a simple, engaging experience on Nokia touchscreen devices.
The app enables Tesco customers to create a shopping list, book delivery slots, add items to their basket then check out. But at the heart of the application is Tesco’s focus on allowing people to do their shopping ‘little and often’ so if you remember you need fresh Scotch Bonnet peppers (om nom nom) in your next delivery you can amend your current orders while you’re out and about.
We’ll be talking over the next few weeks about the design process and working with the lovely people within Tesco. There are a couple of small surprises around the corner as well which we’re quietly geeked about.

Summer time called for a little surprise here at ribot. We were taken to an English port and set sail for unknown lands. A glass of pernod, some rather lovely french mashed potato, a nap in a cabin and 11 hours later we were greeted by the French sands of St Malo.
Our adventure in France was eventful, featuring a fight with a feisty foreign seagull, a fish that played dead, a restaurant walk-out, an outdoor jacuzzi meeting and, of course, lots of lovely food. All too quickly was it time to board our boat for the return to English soil.
We look forward our next adventure!

We were very happy to discover that one of the wordpress plugins we’ve been participating in has now had over 60,000 downloads! As of May 11th 2010, there have been 61,164 downloads of the WordPress Mobile Pack!

It’s great to be involved in a collaborated effort. The project is the brainchild of @jamespearce and @andreatrasatti. If you’d like to help develop the plugin further, do consider joining the team. Other contributors include, @edent and Forum Nokia.

We’ve been invited to speak at SparkUp 2010, a design and development conference hosted in Poland!
Antony will be giving a presentation on the future of Mobile User Experience, with a focus on our changing behaviours, re-connection to physical interactions and how the boundary between mobile web and native app experiences is beginning to blur.
SparkUp is a one day conference, held in Poland on the 25th of May 2010. We look forward to meeting the attendees and practicing some of our Polish language skills (note: the presentation will be held in English – we’re not that good, yet).

DXTR (short for dexterity) is the name given to the government-funded project which we worked together with ixPocket. We’re very happy to announce that it has been shortlisted into the finals of the Mobile User Experience (MEX) 2010 Awards.
So what is Dxtr? It’s an interface design concept for a simplified mobile experience, that anyone could use. It was created in response to research gathered on the touchscreen device experiences for people with dexterity impairment.

The 2010 Mobile User Experience Awards will be held on the evening of the 19th May during the seventh Mobile User Experience conference. Good luck to all the other MEX award finalists.
We’ve been busy on many things including a few articles for .net – the UK’s leading magazine for web designers and developers.
The 3 articles include a two-part tutorial by Jerome and Mark on how to ‘appify your mobile web experience’ and an in-depth 6 pager by Antony on the current state of the mobile landscape.

Big news this one. We’re incredibly happy and excited to announce the arrival of mister Rob Douglas, former lead designer of Rightmove. Long overdue, we’ve managed to coax him down to the coast, with persistent offers of sun, sea and surf (not in the contract).
Rob brings to the team his expert understanding of the user experience, usability testing and his great Kiwi accent!
Some words from the man himself:
